Shock as Bloodhound checks owner’s side mirrors on demand: ‘She nods’

A sleuth checking her owner’s side mirrors for traffic obstructions stunned the internet, with one viewer dubbing her ‘the best driver’.

The clip was filmed in the cabin of TikTok user Frankie Watts (@truckdoguk) truck and has received over 775,000 views since it was posted on May 23. The video shows Watts driving while her sleuth Deirdre sits in the passenger seat next to her.

Deirdre’s knowledge of road safety rules may be impressive, but Bloodhounds are smart dogs who are famous for their “detective skills”. They are best known for their keen sense of smell, which was used by hunters to track deer, wild boar, and other animals. However, the breed’s characteristic drooping eye folds can impair their vision and lead to a host of eye problems if not addressed quickly. So if you’re planning on using your Bloodhound as a co-pilot like Watts, it’s best to stay on top of their annual health checks.

The pair are heading down a residential lane in the UK, but with cars parked on either side of the vehicle, it’s a tight squeeze.

Watts checks the side mirrors on his side of the truck, then asks his pet to do the same. “Deirdre, check your side for me,” she tells the sleuth, who obediently turns and looks out the window.

” How are we ? asks Watts. “GOOD?” Deirdre seems to nod in response, so Watts continues down the lane.

“When you need an extra pair of eyes in the tough spots,” Watts wrote alongside the footage. “I swear she nods her head in confirmation.”

In the comments, Watts explained that Deirdre loves riding with her at work. “She takes it very seriously,” she wrote. “She’s a trucking enthusiast.”

TikTok users have been stunned by Deirdre’s skills, with Ste Jiggy Wilkes calling her the “nicest girl”.

“What a great little helper,” MelissaD888 said, while Shifty agreed, “She knows 100% exactly what she’s doing.”

“That nod, like ‘yes mom it’s all clear,'” Reme Keightly653 wrote, while SnowJ added, “That’s the nod a 40 yr(ea)r experienced trucker would give you. “

“(She) probably (has) more knowledge than some drivers in this situation,” gravedigger974 commented.

“OMG (oh my god) HOW CAN I EMPLOY THIS GOOD BOY!!!!” asked Nathan Rimmington, to which Watts replied, “She’s a girl and so awesome.”

Mandie Ward commented: “Every pilot needs a Deidre!!!!”
