There were worrying scenes at Madejski Stadium as there was a long stoppage after Sheffield United man John Fleck received treatment on the pitch.
The midfielder fell in the 63rd minute of the Blades’ championship clash against Reading and things quickly took a grim turn.
Sheffield United said Fleck immediately received “urgent medical attention”. Journalist James shield reported that Fleck’s legs appeared to be shaking as he lay on the grass.
Fleck was helped to his feet with an oxygen mask before leaving the game on a stretcher.
The club revealed after the game that Fleck was conscious when he left the stadium through the ambulance door.
The incident, which triggered a ten-minute stoppage, made the result almost insignificant, but Sheffield United held on to win 1-0 with Jayden Bogle scoring the winner.
