She-Hulk: Attorney at Law – released Thursday on Disney+ Hotstar – would be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe original series to feature a full CGI lead character. While some might argue that Tatiana Maslany could have just done her makeup in green, that still wouldn’t add to the 6ft 7in height requirement and bulky figure the popular comic book character is known for. Directed by Kat Coiro (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Anu Valia, the upcoming Disney+ series is part of MCU’s Phase 4 and formulates an origin story for She-Hulk, with expectations of her appearing in new future films and / or series.
Jessica Gao, who previously shared writing credits on HBO Silicon Valley and the infamous “Pickle Rick” episode of Rick and Morty, is the editor of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. With the show, Gao is aiming for a true half-hour Marvel comedy with little to no serious implications. While everyone loves the big superhero action show, she notes that television is also a medium through which audiences can get a glimpse into a character’s daily life. That rightly applies to Maslany’s Jennifer Walters, who must balance her career as a lawyer, while being in a green, mutated form that turns many heads. “I want to know what happens on a Tuesday when the world is not in danger. What happens when a 6-foot-7 green woman has to buy a suit to go to court? Gao said in an interview.
One high-profile aspect of the upcoming Disney+ show would be the aforementioned CGI, which received a ton of backlash online following the release of the first trailer. The main criticisms were facial animations, lip syncing, and poor quality rendering that created an airbrushed effect. At TCA (Television Critics Association), Gao spoke to Deadline about working conditions at visual effects companies that work for Marvel Studios and was pleased with her team. “I feel incredibly respectful of the talent of these artists and the speed with which they have to work. Obviously like a lot faster than they probably should be given in terms of producing these things. I know there are a lot of eyes on the CG and a lot of criticism, but I think we have to be very aware that the working conditions are not always optimal.

There’s no official word from the studio, but the change was likely made to avoid overlap with the upcoming Star Wars series. Andorwhich starts streaming September 21 – a Wednesday.
By giving each franchise its own time slot, Disney hopes to keep viewers engaged for several weeks with two highly anticipated titles.
She-Hulk Cast: Lawyer
Maslany (Orphan Black) plays Jennifer Walters, a talented lawyer and cousin of Bruce Banner aka Hulk. The She-Hulk the trailers don’t offer any glimpses of her transformation into a gamma-irradiated monster, but lore-wise she was saved by a blood transfusion from Banner after being shot and seriously injured by a mobster.
She-Hulk finds Walters taking baby steps, as she struggles to balance her personal life and channel her strength through rigorous training and discipline. She also seems to have some sort of celebrity status, as it’s not every day you see a tall, bulky, green-tinted lawyer representing a client. “It’s like a person who doesn’t want to, like, have to be dragged into this role that the whole world has thrown at them, and just wants to be good at swipe dating,” Maslany said in an interview about his character. .
Jameela Jamil is ranked second on the list as Titania, a social media influencer obsessed with She-Hulk, sticking phone cameras to her face to get a live reaction from her followers. Through a cellular augmentation process, she retains super strength, making her a possible opponent for Walters. Jamil describes the character as “she almost doesn’t have to use her strength; she might just bore you to death,” according to one interview.
Disney+ Hotstar August 2022: She-HulkHouse of the Dragon, Corpse and More
Mark Ruffalo plays the recognizable Dr. Banner who is “always angry” and ready to guide Walters through his training, whether it’s yoga, rage control, or the importance of wearing spandex. Smart Hulk, who made his first appearance in Avengers: Endgame, will return with years of knowledge to pass on to his cousin, the new She-Hulk. According to Gao, actors Ruffalo and Maslany “clicked instantly” on set, resulting in a naturalistic cousin chemistry dynamic on screen. “They grew up together, they went to all the family gatherings together, and they know how to push each other,” Gao said in a video interaction.
Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs) reprises his aforementioned role as Blonsky, as seen in The Incredible Hulk (2008) directed by Edward Norton. He is a former officer in the UK Royal Marines, who was injected with a variant of the Super Soldier Serum. After a defeat at the hands of the Hulk at Culver University, he transfuses Banner’s gamma-irradiated blood to transform into a monstrous aquatic creature called the Abomination. The She-Hulk the trailer says he’s locked in a cell somewhere. It’s up to Walters to represent him in court. But for what purpose, remains to be seen.
Portraying a problematic figure as such is bound to attract media attention, although Walters’ best friend thinks it has more to do with the green appearance. Nikki Ramos, played by Ginger Gonzaga, is a paralegal and close companion to She-Hulk. Going by the trailers, she’s presented as a supportive, party-loving person who loves watching Walters transform into She-Hulk. “I want people to be able to relate to She-Hulk, someone who was forced to rise to power and live in a different body,” Gonzaga explained in an interview. “I hope that [the audience] earn that kind of trust.
Wong, who recently rose through the ranks to become The Sorcerer Supreme, has made scattered appearances in the MCU franchise. Played by the aptly named Benedict Wong, the wizard serves as a harbinger of bad news in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, warning that “the universe is on the edge of a precipice”. His involvement here isn’t all that surprising though, as he’s already been seen in a cage battle against the Abomination in Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. Maybe Blonsky has something sneaky planned, as we see Wong trying to talk Walters out of publicity.
Inside She-Hulk: Lawyer, Marvel’s Modern Legal Comedy
Adding to the many lawyers expected in She-Hulk, let’s add a blind to the mix. In a surprise teaser at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Hell’s Kitchen’s nighttime vigilante is also revealed to be involved with the Marvel original series. Charlie Cox is set to reprise his role as attorney Matt Murdock aka Daredevil, though details on his role are scarce. According to an MTV interview, Maslany describes the two as “Besties!”
After Netflix was canceled years ago, Daredevil is also getting its own show at Disney+, with Daredevil: Born Again set to premiere in early 2024.
Then there’s Mallory Book, played by Renée Elise Goldsberry (Tick, Tick…Boom!), acting as the prosecutor opposed to Walters. As a defendant in court, she earned the nickname “The face that never lost a case”, although that wasn’t enough to intimidate Walters.
Synopsis of She-Hulk: Lawyer
Here’s the official synopsis for Disney+ Hotstar’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law:
In Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) – an attorney specializing in superhuman-focused legal cases – must navigate the complicated life of a bachelor in her 30s who also happens to be a Green 6. – 7 inch Super Powered Hulk. The nine-episode comedy series features a host of MCU veterans, including Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination and Benedict Wong as Wong, as well as Jameela Jamil, Josh Segarra, Ginger Gonzaga, Jon Bass and Renee Elise Goldsberry.
Marvel released the first trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on May 18, opening to mixed reception, due to the abysmal CGI and animations. One interesting thing to note here was the change in She-Hulk’s origin story. While the comics make her the victim of a shooting, here it looks like she finds herself in a car accident, before acquiring powers. The She-Hulk The trailer also highlights how much Walters despises the idea of being a superhero, which his cousin Banner objects to, as seen in the Comic-Con trailer.
Released July 24, Comic-Con She-Hulk the trailer is a more quirky type, focused on family dynamics. Banner acts as a life coach for Walters, constantly pushing her boundaries and buttons, as he tries to come to terms with the idea that she doesn’t want to be a superhero. The second trailer also hinted at some fourth wall breaking scenarios and offered a first look at the new Daredevil suit.
As part of the promotion, Marvel also released random over-edited clips from the upcoming series, titled “Date” and “Super Hero.”
