Shares close higher for the second day in a row. Bullish and bearish session for major indices

The main American stock market indices close higher for the second day in a row. The gains are fairly consistent across the indices with gains between 0.60% and 0.66%

The price action was up and down. Major indexes open lower, but rebound higher despite President Powell’s interview with the Cato Institute where he reiterated sentiments from his Jackson Hole Symposium.

Shares fell back after ECB sources said a 75 basis point hike is not out of the question for October. Today, the central bank raised rates by 75 basis points, the biggest increase since the start of the single currency.

These drops were reduced at the end.

Final figures show:

  • Dow Industrial Average up 193.24 points or 0.61% to 31774.51
  • S&P index up 26.31 points or 0.66% to 4006.19
  • NASDAQ index up 70.24 points or 0.60% at 11862.14

The Russell Small Cap Index was the biggest gainer rising 14.90 points or 0.1% to 1846.90
