Shanghai Covid Lockdown Ends; Time for haircuts, dog walking and jogging

SINGAPORE—Residents gathered at the gates of some housing complexes in Shanghai on Tuesday night to stage a countdown to midnight, when the city government lifted anti-Covid-19 restrictions that had kept them locked down in their apartments – in many cases for more than two months.

Shortly after the deadline expired, a convoy of cars emerged from the gates of a resort, honking their horns and with national flags draped over their hoods, videos circulating on social media showed. Passengers could be seen standing with their heads out of the sunroofs. Firecrackers twinkled in the night sky as a festive mood entered the city after weeks of chaos, frustration and mounting despair.
