Reigning Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen had a spectacular start to the 2022 Supercars season, crashing off the track in the opening practice session.
With persistent wet conditions, drivers had to navigate a soggy Sydney Motorsport Park. The wet runway immediately sent several pilots off the ground, including van Gisbergen.
At the start of the first practice session, the Kiwi drifted a little too wide in a corner. His right front wheel caught the mud just off the track, causing him to skid.

Fortunately, he regained control of the car to ensure no further damage occurred.
“You don’t see this often,” Fox Sports commentator Mark Skaife said of the incident.
“I can’t remember the last time I saw van Gisbergen go into a spin.”
