After weeks of speculation, actor Shailene Woodley confirmed in an interview on “The Tonight Show” that she is engaged to football star Aaron Rodgers.
She explained that they had been engaged “for quite some time” after meeting during the pandemic.
“Everyone is freaking out and we’re like, ‘Yeah, we’ve been engaged for a while,’” she told host Jimmy Fallon.
“He is, first of all, a wonderful and amazing human being,” she says. “But I never thought I would be engaged to someone who throws balls for a living.”
As Fallon laughed, Woodley went on to explain that she had never watched the sport grow up and that she still had never attended a soccer game.
“But he’s really so good at it,” she laughs. “When we met I knew he was a footballer but I didn’t know what kind from a footballer he was … I’m still constantly learning. “
“Because I don’t know him as a footballer!” Woodley explained. “I know him as the nerd who wants to host ‘Jeopardy!’ He’s the guy I know. It just so happens that he is also very good at sports.
By the way, Rodgers will get his “Jeopardy!” wish – he’s one of the many upcoming guest hosts who have been announced after Alex Trebek’s death.
In his Monday night interview, Woodley also opened up to Fallon about how his dog was immediately taken with Rodgers.
“When I first met him … my dog pulled me to the side and said, ‘If you don’t date this guy, I’ll deny you like my mother because all three feet that I run with you when you throw a ball is nothing compared to the marathon that I can run with him, ”she joked.
Monday night’s interview with Fallon marks the first time Woodley has spoken publicly about his engagement to the ‘football guy’, although earlier this month the Green Bay Packers quarterback casually revealed that ‘he got engaged during his virtual acceptance speech on the NFL Honors show, where he was named MVP 2020.
“Thank you very much. It’s an honor to win this award for the third time,” he began. “2020 has definitely been a crazy year filled with a lot of change, growth, amazing memorable moments, 180 days in a row where I scratched my nose hair, I played for very few fans or no stands all season.
Then he quickly slipped into a big news: “I got engaged and played some of the best football of my career,” he said.
The news of the engagement comes less than a year after the previous relationship ended. Rodgers and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick announced their resignations in July after more than two years together. In April 2020, Woodley confirmed that she and rugby player Ben Volavola had broken up.
