Sexually active older adults are getting syphilis and other STIs

“Any falls in the last 90 days? Are you sleeping well, exercising enough, eating well? What medications do you take ? My primary care doctor asked the questions you would expect during the annual physical of someone who had just turned 60 years old. There is, however, one subject she did not mention. Even though she knew I was recently divorced, the doctor didn’t ask me if I had become sexually active, nor did she tell me about testing for chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhea or HIV. I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I didn’t ask him about sex either.
