Several homes have been evacuated as firefighters battle a blaze at an industrial building in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

The fire broke out around 3:45 p.m. Saturday.

A local recreation center has been opened for residents who have been ordered to leave their homes.

Phillip Arnold, 79, told Nottinghamshire Live: “I’ve never seen anything like it and I’ve been here for 50 years.

“My house is a short walk away.

“They came knocking on my door and said we had to evacuate.

“I’ve been here for about three hours now.

Those who remained at home were ordered to keep doors and windows closed.

Parts of Forest Road, Sandhurst Avenue, Bessemer Drive and Nottingham Road are also without electricity as firefighters had to isolate the electricity while battling the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

Chief Inspector Amy Styles-Jones, Nottinghamshire Police, said: ‘This incident is likely to last for some time so please avoid the area if possible.
