Seth Meyers identifies red flag that showed January 6 plan was ‘really crazy’

You know your plan is “really crazy” when even Rudy Giuliani thinks it’s a bad idea, according to “Late Night” host Seth Meyers.

In its third of six hearings, the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol painted a picture last week of how John Eastman, a lawyer for Donald Trump, helped the President of the time to hatch a plan to cancel the 2020 election using Vice President Mike Pence.

The committee heard testimony from Eric Herschmann, a lawyer and former senior adviser to Trump, who said he received a call on the morning of Jan. 6 from Giuliani, Trump’s personal attorney at the time. Herschmann said Giuliani eventually admitted that Pence probably lacked the power to do what Trump and Eastman were suggesting.

“It’s amazing to me that even Rudy would know that was a crazy, bad idea,” Meyers said Monday. “Rudi. That’s how you know your plan is really crazy. He’s a guy who, while being investigated several times, thought it was a good idea to make a video using an Abraham Lincoln filter. This same guy looked at John Eastman’s plan and said, “I don’t know.”

After Pence refused to comply, a crowd of Trump supporters besieged the Capitol, some chanting for him to be hanged. At one point, the rioting crowd was within 40 feet of Pence inside the Capitol.
