For the first time since March 2020, Seth Meyers hosted a live studio audience for Late at night Monday. And he took the opportunity to poke fun at Donald Trump for seemingly annoying his own rally crowd this weekend.
“I am delighted to be back in front of an audience,” said the host during his last segment “A Closer Look”. “And I just hope my audience is a little more enthusiastic than Trump’s.”
Noting that Trump traveled to Iowa on Saturday to stage a rally in which he “repeated the same deranged lies about the election that he has been repeating for months,” Meyers said that “not even his own crowd does wasn’t exactly electrified upon hearing the same old incoherent nonsense over and over again.
As footage showed Trump moaning about how he thought he was going to beat Joe Biden before he did, C-SPAN cameras caught his crowd staring into space and not reacting to applause.

“Wow, and I was afraid to bring the audience back,” Meyers said in response, adding that he liked the “cutaways for the brooding Trump fans who stood there in silence like tourists watching one of those golden statue guys in Times Square – ‘is he going, like, doing something?’ “
“And you could tell that Trump was also expecting a reaction from the crowd,” he continued. “I mean, look at him. It’s like watching an open mic party at the senior center.
