Because, Judy, what we do know is there’s an election this fall. And people will be able to go to the polls and decide who their voice and vote will be on critical decisions like this and many more.
And I believe very strongly that a lot of young people did not expect this to be at stake for them. They just assumed that they might have access to an abortion in case of rape or incest, or for personal decisions, a health decision of their own. I don’t think they expected it to take away from them.
And I think we are all now aware that this is just the first step. We have people here in the Senate, across the country, you’ve seen the laws that are already put in place — put in place in states in our country that also deny a woman the right to even have her own choices when it comes to family planning health care. We see the right of people to be able to make choices about health care when they are victims of rape or incest.
It’s an incredible intrusion into people’s lives, and I think people are waking up, they realize that, and it will make a difference when they go to the polls. Something is really at stake, and it’s your right to make your own health care decisions.
