Season 1 Contestant On ‘Survivor’ Was 87

Sonja Christopher, who was the first person to Survivor Season 1, who will be written out of the series, died at 87, according to a current contestant. No cause has been revealed.

Liz Wilcox, who stars in the current season 46 Survivor, posted the news on X. She met Christopher over Christmas and shared a photo of the two chatting on FaceTime on her account.

“Today the legend herself, Sonja Christopher, from season one, passed away. I had the pleasure of meeting her at Christmas. She had so much courage and love for Survivor and what the series brought to his life I hope you sing and play with all your heart in a beautiful place, Sonja.

Wilcox said people should not send flowers, but advised making donations to Mount Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church in Walnut Creek, Calif., the Cancer Support Community of SF or the Sjogren Foundation.

Sonja competed on Survivor: Borneo in 2000, and was dismissed after several missteps led to her team losing in the first week.
