Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Returns to Court to Ask for Bail, Complains of ‘Horrible’ Prison Conditions in New York

Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is accused of sex trafficking, was due back in New York court on Wednesday afternoon, where his lawyers will again seek bail and pretrial release after the trial amid “horrific” conditions in his detention center.

The music mogul was arrested Monday night after a grand jury indicted him on three counts stemming from his alleged sexual abuse of women over a period of years, federal prosecutors said.

A judge denied Combs bail on Tuesday, but his lawyers have appealed and insist their client fits the profile of a defendant who should not be held in pretrial detention.

Combs came to New York to surrender to government agents before his arrest, defense attorneys said. That attempt at “surrender” is “something the court should consider,” Combs’ attorneys said.

Additionally, Combs said he should not be subjected to harsh conditions in a federal prison in New York, citing the murders and suicides that have occurred at that prison in recent years.

The courts “have recognized that the conditions at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center are not suitable for pretrial detention,” defense attorney Marc Agnifilo wrote in a letter to the court.

“Many courts in this district have expressed concern about the appalling conditions of detention here.”

The government argued that Combs posed a threat to the community because of the alleged violent acts detailed in the indictment and that he posed a flight risk because of his immense wealth.

No matter what his lawyers do to keep Combs in check, “the defendant’s behavior illustrates” that the defense team “cannot control its client,” according to a government memo filed in court Wednesday.

Combs “poses a danger – to victims and others, both through physical violence and obstructive behavior – and a flight risk” and he “must be detained,” prosecutors added.

A grand jury indicted Combs on three counts: racketeering, sex trafficking and using transportation to commit prostitution, according to court documents.
