WILMINGTON, North Carolina – After going to a school record of 15-3 during the Colonial Athletic Association regular season, UNCW won the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAA Men’s Basketball Championship in Washington.
The Seahawks, 21-8 overall, closed out the regular season in style this weekend, beating Drexel and Delaware on the road. UNCW won a share of the conference regular season championship for the ninth time, a CAA record.
UNCW clinched the No. 2 seed after Towson defeated Delaware, 69-57, on Monday in a rematch suspended from January. The Tigers, 24-7, won their sixth in a row coming back from a 38-29 deficit to tear apart the Blue Hens and clinched the top seed after beating Hofstra twice during the regular season.
The Seahawks have been seeded No. 2 six times, compiling an 8-5 record. The last time UNCW was the No. 2 seed was in 2016 when the Seahawks won the CAA crown under former head coach Kevin Keatts.
The nine-team CAA Tournament takes place Saturday through Tuesday, March 5-8, 2022, at the Nation’s Capital Entertainment & Sports Arena.
