Two students were shot dead at a Virginia high school on Monday morning, police said. A suspect was not in custody after the shooting at Newport News’ Heritage High School, Police Chief Steve Drew told reporters.
Drew said both victims were 17 years old. A student was shot in the face and a student was shot in the lower leg, Drew said.
The injuries were not considered life threatening, Drew said. At least four students in total were taken to hospitals in the area, but only two were shot dead, the chief said.
The students were evacuated from the school, police said. Parents were told they could meet their children on the school tennis courts.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
