SCAM: Jackson County Sheriff warns of new scam in area

JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is advising people to be aware of a scam going on in the area.

According to a Facebook post posted by the Jackson County Sheriff, a person called people in the area claiming to be a Scottsboro City Police Sgt.

The caller typically tells people they missed a court date or ignored a subpoena in Jackson County Court.

The message reads: “This is a scam, and the sheriff’s office will not call you for a missed court date, and we will never ask you for cash or money cards/bank transfers to settle a problem.”

The sheriff’s office advises you not to give any information to this caller. The phone number to avoid is 256-617-7725.
