SBA administrator touts vaccine requirements as effort to protect economy and businesses

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WKRN) – Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, small businesses have been among the hardest hit.

“We’ve been on the ground trying to help them pivot and adapt,” said Isabel Guzman, director of the Small Business Association.

From PPP loans to disaster loans, Guzman said businesses large and small are poised to bounce back. “We are developing an ecosystem through our partners on the ground and through our products to make sure we can rebuild better for our small business. ”

And part of the “Build Back Better” program encourages businesses to demand vaccination against COVID.

“We know that so many businesses, especially in the hardest hit industries, food and beverage companies, travel and tourism in hotels, gyms, lounges, have really been hit during COVID, the consumer behavior has changed, resources have been limited as their incomes have been slaughtered. “said Guzman.

Guzman is the first Latina to lead the Small Business Association. She said vaccinations play a crucial role in a healthy economy and President Biden’s vaccine requirements make this clear.

“It’s important that we fight this pandemic and end this pandemic and that means vaccinating more people and therefore the Biden-Harris administration has gone from 5 percent or more to 77 percent of the population with at least a vaccination and that’s what’s going to completely reopen our economy and ensure that schools and our businesses can stay open to survive, ”Guzman said.

Most people, including Governor Bill Lee, are awaiting details of OSHA’s presidential rule requiring companies with 100 or more employees to be vaccinated.

“I’ve traveled across the country to different states, seen small businesses really wanting to make sure their employees are protected and that customers who walk through the door can be in a safe environment, so all vaccines and masks small businesses based on studies support both measures. “
