Chelsea have reached a deal to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez on a first loan with option to buy on deadline day.
Sources in Spain said Sky Sports News that Chelsea, Atletico and the player have come to a full deal to have the transfer made on Tuesday night and are working hard to ensure a deal is reached before the 11pm deadline.
Chelsea will pay a loan fee of £ 3.4m (€ 4m) and have the option to buy the Spain international for £ 30m (€ 35m) next summer.
Saul, who wants to move to the Premier League, will not fly to London on Tuesday night.
The 26-year-old, who was part of Diego Simeone’s victorious squad last season, has made more than 300 appearances for Atletico since joining the first team at the age of 17 in 2012.
He has already been linked with a move to the Premier League, with reports escalating this summer that Manchester United will compete with Chelsea for his signing.
Earlier in the summer, Sky Sports News reported that Saul was also part of negotiations over a possible swap deal with Barcelona which would have seen Antoine Griezmann join his former club.
However, Chelsea appear to have a clear run in midfield on the final day of the transfer window.
Meanwhile, Ethan Ampadu has extended his contract with Chelsea until 2024 and sealed a one-season loan to Serie A newcomers Venezia.
This is the third loan spell for the 20-year-old Welsh international, having spent time in top English and German flights with Sheffield United and RB Leipzig respectively.
