Sandy Ryan is preparing to start her professional career this year

World Championship silver medalist Sandy Ryan is set to turn pro this summer with exciting ambitions of becoming a multi-weight champion for Great Britain.

The 27-year-old Derby boxer, who also won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, was one of Team GB’s main medal contenders for the rescheduled Tokyo Games.

But Ryan was forced to reconsider her future after an Olympic qualifying tournament was canceled and signed a management agreement with Paul Ready of STN Sports before entering the pro ranks.

“Professional women’s boxing in recent years just got bigger and bigger,” Ryan said. Sky Sports.

“I feel like he’s at the point now where he’s pretty close to men.

“More and more girls are turning around, especially amateurs, and now you’re going to see more of a showcase for women’s boxing.

“I have nine years of GB experience and feel like I will bring a lot to the table when I shoot.”

Ryan was also a silver medalist at the 2014 World Championships

Ryan is physically ‘better than ever’ after recent shoulder surgery and is expected to team up with coach Clifton Mitchell when she begins her paid welterweight career.

After a long amateur career, Ryan is set to aim for world titles, with an ultimate ambition to fight at the home of Derby County Football Club.

“I posted a tweet the other week about my boxing at Pride Park Stadium,” Ryan said.

“For me to do this, I think it would make one of my dreams come true. When the crowds come back I’m sure it can happen. I know a lot of people in Derby want to see this, so we’ve got to get this going.
