Sandeep Nagpal, international Kabaddi player, shot dead in Jalandhar; 20 bullets fired at his head and chest

Kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal was shot and killed Monday night by unidentified assailants in Jalandhar district of Punjab, police said. The incident happened while a Kabaddi tournament was underway in the village of Mallian Kalan in Shahkot.

Jalandhar (Rural) (Nakodar) Deputy Superintendent of Police Lakhwinder Singh confirmed the report. Police suspect eight to ten bullets were pumped into the Kabaddi player’s head. They said further investigation was underway.

According to reports, another youngster from Nagpal was shot in the leg during the attack. DNA reported that five disbelievers ambushed the kabaddi player and opened fire on him. The report adds that videos of the disturbing incident have surfaced on social media. Spectators were seen fleeing the stadium as bullets were fired at Nagpal from a distance.

Nagpal, was at the top of his game for 11 years and was nicknamed “Gladiator”. He has played tournaments in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Reports claimed that Nagpal was running a major league Kabaddi federation where there seemed to be a dispute between him and the federation or some clubs.
