San Jose Sharks announce 1st black general manager in NHL history, Mike Grier, according to multiple reports

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) — Mike Grier has been named general manager of the San Jose Sharks, becoming the first black man in NHL history to hold the position, the team announced Tuesday.

The Sharks made the official announcement during a press conference.

It comes days after the team fired head coach Bob Boughner and his staff.

The Sharks have missed the playoffs for three consecutive seasons, the longest drought in franchise history.
