San Francisco 49ers stars Brandon Aiyuk and Brock Purdy tipped for greatness by teammate

Two San Francisco 49ers stars were approached by a teammate after a phenomenal start to the 2023 season.

The 49ers made a statement early in the season with a 30-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was the star of the show, catching two touchdown passes and rushing for 129 yards.

Quarterback Brock Purdy also picked up where he left off last season, before an injury hampered his ability to throw the ball in the NFC Championship Game.

Purdy was “Mr. Irrelevant” in the 2022 NFL Draft, the unwanted nickname given to the player taken last overall, but showed he was anything but irrelevant.

He threw two touchdown passes for 220 yards with no interceptions.

49ers rookie safety Ji’Ayir Brown praised his teammates in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT.

When asked about Aiyuk, he replied: “I always told him he was one of the greatest. His mentality is to perpetuate this day after day. Not only do I believe in it, but everyone in the organization believes that he can be one of the best receivers to play.

“As long as he continues to carry that torch, he will always be great for us.”

Of Purdy, he added: “Brock is a great quarterback that you all will be able to see from week one. Just the way he reads the defense, his decision-making, where he can put the ball to… Brock, that’s him.

“There’s no need to even question it. He’s going to continue to prove himself, he’s going to continue to play and be great.

The 49ers are serious Super Bowl contenders this season and will next face their division rivals, the Los Angeles Rams.

Regarding the expectations surrounding the team, Brown added: “As long as you stay off the internet, you can focus on your goals and what’s in front of you.” This is what I personally do so as not to fuel all the noise.

“I stay off the internet, I stay focused on the playbook, I stay on the team and try to come up with the game plan to execute it as best as possible.”
