Samsung has just sent out invitations for its next Unpacked event. There are those companies that like to sneak in their invitations – and then there is Samsung. The note begins with the bold big words “Prepare to Unfold” and features a pair of flat-colored objects that can reasonably be considered to resemble the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip form factors, respectively.
In keeping with… the general state of the world over the past year and a half, the event will be held virtually on Wednesday August 11th. Interestingly, the company is also opening pre-orders on its “next flagship,” unseen sights and specs. Benefits for early pre-orders include “12 months free of Samsung Care +, up to an additional $ 200 trade-in credit and special pre-order offer.”
But honestly, it’s usually best to wait and see the thing and maybe even read a review or two.
There is a lot to unpack (so to speak) before the event. First, I’m probably not the only one expecting the company to focus its next big event on the next Galaxy Watch. The big event at MWC was a bit of a mess (much like the MWC itself), offering more information on the upcoming wearable partnership with Google, instead of announcing all material.
As the company noted at the time, “The upcoming One UI Watch will debut at an upcoming Unpacked event later this summer, featuring the new UI, along with the upcoming Samsung / Google joint platform. . “
It seems reasonably likely that this will be the event where it happens, even if the new watch doesn’t get the top spot. On the one hand, we miss summer. On the other hand, rumors predict that the new Galaxy Watch is due out at the end of August (the 27e) Release.
All in all, this could be a pretty big summer event for the company, going against last year’s trend of handing out devices one by one during virtual inventions. It is said on the street that we could see a Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy S21 FE (“Fan Edition” – basically the latest version of the company’s budget flagship) and even the Galaxy Buds Pro, which will face the AirPods Pro more directly (which are getting a bit long in the tooth).
What is missing in all of this? No point if you said the note. Samsung’s beloved phablet is reportedly not available this year as chip shortages continue to weigh on the industry. It would be a big hit for Samsung’s six-month cycle, although we’ll see how it all plays out soon enough.
August 11e the event will begin at 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT.
