Samsung led the overall 5G Android smartphone market in terms of global sales in February, according to data shared by a research firm. The South Korean company’s Galaxy A52s 5G was the top-selling 5G-enabled handset, followed by the Galaxy S22 Ultra which was released in February. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S21 FE 5G, Galaxy A32 5G, and Galaxy A22 5G were the third, fourth, and tenth best-selling smartphones. Smartphones from Chinese manufacturers such as Honor, Vivo, Oppo and Xiaomi were also among the best-selling handsets.
According to a report by Counterpoint Research, the Android segment accounted for 67% of global 5G smartphone sales, while 10 of the top-selling handsets accounted for 20% of all 5G Android phones sold in February. With five of the company’s phones among the best-selling handsets with 5G, Samsung captured nearly 24% of global 5G Android smartphone sales in the same month.
The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G remained the best-selling handset from January 2022 – it was one of the top 10 best-selling smartphones for the last six consecutive months, according to the report. Thanks to sales in South Korea and the United States, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, launched in February, was the second best-selling phone on the list and accounted for two-thirds of Galaxy S22 series sales.
Meanwhile, promotions in the United States and sales in Germany propelled the Galaxy S21 FE to third position, up from 10th position in January. The Galaxy A32 5G and Galaxy A22 5G were the fourth and 10th best-selling smartphones respectively in February, due to the price of these handsets below $250 (around Rs 19,200), according to the report.
Fifth place in the list of top-selling Android phones in February 2022 was the Oppo Reno 7 5G, which was the top-selling smartphone in China during the same month. Smartphone demand remained high in China, where 5G penetration reached 83% in February, but smartphone makers such as Oppo Vivo, Xiaomi and Honor are reportedly looking to expand into new markets in Asia-Pacific (APAC). ) and the Middle East. Two of Honor’s handsets also feature in the February 2022 best-selling handsets list – the Honor 60 and Honor X30, which accounted for 30% of Honor’s smartphone share in China.
