Samsung Electronics has equipped the new flagship attraction, “Chasseurs de Tornades”, at the Futuroscope theme park in Poitiers, France, with innovative technology to provide an immersive and realistic experience for visitors. Samsung’s collaboration with Futuroscope Management and Development (FMD) helped bring this breathtaking attraction to life, making the signage installed by Samsung the largest 360-degree circular LED display in Europe.

The new Hunters attraction of Tornados, is the result of four years of hard work between the FMD team and Samsung, an industry leader in the global signaling market for the past 13 consecutive years.1 The collaboration produced a completely immersive audience experience through the use of state-of-the-art audio-visual technology.

The concept behind the attraction is a thrilling adventure where viewers take on nature’s most extreme elements, immersing them in an immersive, whirlwind experience created by Samsung. Based on the story of the Tornado Hunters, visitors follow a team of searchers in their all-terrain vehicle in pursuit of tornadoes.

Sitting atop a dynamic rotating platform, guests come face to face with the intensity of a powerful tornado on Europe’s largest circular LED wall. Samsung’s huge LED wall measures 17 meters in diameter by eight meters high with a total area of ​​420 square meters, making it the largest such LED display in an amusement park that Samsung has installed in the world. world.

Collectively, it is comprised of 800 Samsung Indoor IFR Series LED cabinets and features 21K resolution for hyper-realistic immersion. Using HDR LED technology, scenes are optimized for high contrast to display detailed and lifelike images. The maximum light output is 2,400 nits and the static contrast ratio is 12,000:1, resulting in superior image quality.

The attraction itself is a dynamic 120-seat motion theater surrounded by a 360-degree LED screen. Four parts of the screen drop down to let the audience in and out, as well as view two live shows through the sliding doors. The flexible design properties of the IFR solution make it suitable for any location, aligning perfectly with the circular dimensions needed for this unique attraction. In addition, the IFR solution provides twice the power supply, giving the attraction greater reliability.

A highlight of the attraction is the removable LED walls where the actors perform part of the attraction that Samsung was chosen to equip with an LED screen made up of 105 windows. To create a truly immersive experience for visitors upon entering the attraction, Samsung fitted the “pre-show” area with 20 LED cabinets to create an optical theater called a “hologram”.

“The circular screen we installed at Futuroscope is the biggest LED project we have done,” said Jeremy Taghon, CE B2B division manager at Samsung Electronics France. “I am impressed and grateful for the hard work and partnership between FMD and Samsung that brought this important technological milestone to life.”

“The contrast ratio, the image, the sharpness, it’s just amazing. An attraction like this is made to last at least 15 years, and LED is the only technology that is durable enough,” said Yannis Marchet, Director of Development and Projects at FMD. “When management agreed that we could work with Samsung, everything went well.”

The attraction won several international awards in 2022, including “Best New Ride” at the European Star Awards and “Best Product Innovation” as well as “Best Dark Ride or Media-based Experience” at the ParkWorld Excellence Awards. Most recently, it won the Themed Entertainment Association’s “Outstanding Achievement” award, an accolade considered the top attraction in the world.

By installing Europe’s largest 360-degree circular LED signage, Samsung enabled FMD to wow Futuroscope visitors with a compelling audiovisual experience like no other.
