Sam Elliot puts his tail between his legs.
The 77-year-old actor has apologized for his controversial comments about the film The power of the dog on Marc Maronit is WTF podcast last month.
“I told the WTF podcaster that I thought Jeanne Campion was a brilliant director, and I want to apologize to the cast of The power of the dogbrilliant actors all,” he said on April 10 during DeadlineThe Contenders TV event. “And especially Benedict Cumberbatch. I can only say I’m sorry and I am. I am.”
In his mea culpa, Elliot admitted he wasn’t ‘very articulate’ in sharing his thoughts on the Western and felt ‘awful’ about how his comments were received, especially by the gay community.
“I said things that hurt people and I feel bad about it,” he said. “The gay community has been amazing to me throughout my career. And I mean my entire career, from before I started in this city. Friends on all levels and in all job descriptions up to today.”
