Salford City 0 – 1 Port Vale

Port Vale tightened their grip on an automatic promotion place in League Two by ending Salford’s 11-game unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win at the Peninsula.

Harry Charsley hit the winner to lift Vale three points above fourth-placed Northampton.

It was the visitors who were ahead in the first half, with the better chances coming from James Wilson.

The former Salford striker hit the post in the eighth minute after a low attempt from a tight angle passed Tom King at his near post.

The home team had a major opportunity at halftime.

Brandon Thomas-Asante came to the line after some tricky work down the left and pulled back for Matty Lund who hit the side netting from eight yards out.

The second half started much like the first and after 15 minutes Vale took the lead.

Charsley tackled a disorganized defense and curled a left-footed attempt into the top corner of King’s goal.

Salford tried to make a late push to equalize but struggled to break Vale down.
