Sailors avoided a bizarre trend on Monday

As is often said in this space, MLB is full of surprises.

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, the day shocks you with a funny fact or situation.

It (almost) happened on Monday.

According to Talkin’ Baseball, 11 of 12 MLB games yesterday were won by the team with the worst record.

Can you guess the one outlier?

Seattle Mariners win over Texas Rangers.

Had Rangers won on Monday night, it would have been a very, very strange day for sports bettors.

It’s just one of those statistical quirks that happens from time to time.

Sailors saved the day and prevented a full underdog takeover

However, Seattle was able to hold off Texas with a narrow 4-3 win.

Powered by a home run from Ty France, the Mariners took their record to 52-45 and are 12 games behind the Houston Astros.

Apart from that, the day was full of upheaval on Monday.

The San Diego Padres are still unable to win in Detroit, and lost the first game, 12-4, against the Tigers.

The Cincinnati Reds annihilated the Miami Marlins in an 11-2 final, and the Philadelphia Phillies gave the Atlanta Braves a hard time and lost them half a game in their quest for a division.

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox defeated the Cleveland Guardians.

The most resounding upsets were the Oakland Athletics shutting out the Houston Astros and the mediocre Washington Nationals beating the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It was definitely a weird day in baseball on Monday.

Will the favorites get back to their wins today, or will the underdogs get another field day on Tuesday?

The games have already started.
