  • The BAI selection trials to choose the teams will start on Friday at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
  • A total of 120 players will participate in the five categories as the 6-day tryouts will continue until April 20.
  • Parents and media will be allowed to watch the games from the stands.
  • BAI will also select probable base squad players for the 2024 Olympics, as a pool of 60 players will be selected through direct selection and tryouts.

  • Seeds in the Trials draw will be decided based on international rankings followed by national rankings, while the combined individual ranking points awarded by the BWF will be considered doubles.

Why is Saina Nehwal unhappy with BAI and against lawsuits? Two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist Saina Nehwal is quite unhappy with the Indian Badminton Association. She alleged that BAI deliberately wanted to remove her from the Indian team. She questioned the timing of the trials selection for the CWG and the Asian Games.

β€œSurprised to see all the articles saying that I don’t want to defend my CWG title and my Asiad medal. I’m just not taking part in the trials because I’ve just come back from 3 weeks of European events and according to the calendar there are Asian championships”, Saina tweeted.

“In 2 weeks, as a senior player, participating in consecutive events without interruption is impossible and it is at risk of injury, such short notice is not possible. I have passed this on to BAI but there is no haven’t heard back from them. Looks like they’re happy to kick me out of CWG n Asiad”, she added.
