Sabrina Carpenter reflects on being called “S–t” and “Homewrecker”

Sabrina Carpenter wears his heart on his sleeve.

The singer released her new album Emails that I cannot send on July 15, and one song in particular has fans talking. On the track “Because I Loved a Boy”, Carpenter sings about the judgment she faced in a relationship.

The A girl meets the world the actress reflects on the affair with a guy “older Black Eyed Peas and complicated exes.” And while Carpenter says “it was all so innocent,” she suggests that not everyone saw it that way and wasn’t judgmental.

“Now I’m a home wrecker, I’m a jerk,” Carpenter sings. “I received death threats while filling semi-trailers.”

Throughout the song, Carpenter reflects on people making their own assumptions about the situation.

“I’m the hot topic on your tongue,” she continues. “I’m a rebound that turns / Steals the young / Tell me who I am / Guess I got no choice / All because I loved a boy.”

And Carpenter suggests it hasn’t been an easy time. “I don’t catastrophize / Everything derails”, she sings. “I was only trying to hold you close/While your heart was failing/It’s not an illusion on the internet/Just two kids going through this/You said I was too late to be your first love/ But I will always be your favourite.”

“I fell so deep into it / It was all so innocent,” she later adds. “Dating guys with exes/No, I wouldn’t recommend it.”
