Russian forces shelled the city of Kharkiv, the regional military governor said on Friday, as fighting continues in eastern Ukraine.
“During the past 24 hours, the Russian occupation forces fired 48 times with artillery, mortars, tanks and several rocket launchers in Saltivka, Piatyhatky, Oleksiivka, Derhachi and in the city center”, said Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv regional military administration. , said on Telegram.
“At the moment there are 15 injured in Kharkiv and the district.”
Syniehubov said the shelling severely damaged a gas pipeline and emergency crews were working at the scene.
The bombardment of Kharkiv comes amid heavy fighting in the southern part of the region. Ukrainian authorities have urged civilians to evacuate a number of towns and settlements in eastern Ukraine.
“Fighting continues in the direction of Izium,” he said. “We continue the evacuation, especially from Barvinkove and Lozova.”
