Russia denies FM Lavrov was hospitalized in Bali following Indonesian claims

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was hospitalized after arriving on the Indonesian island of Bali for this week’s G20 summit, The Associated Press reported Monday, citing the Indonesian government and unnamed health officials.

Two of the officials who were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly told AP that Lavrov was being treated for a heart condition.

The Russian Foreign Ministry quickly denied the report as “false”.

“Sergei Viktorovich and I are here in Indonesia reading the newsfeed and we can’t believe our eyes,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on her messaging app channel. Telegram.

Lavrov told Russian news agency TASS he was preparing for the summit at his hotel.

“This is not a new game in politics,” Lavrov can be seen saying, dressed in a t-shirt and shorts, in a video filmed and posted by Zakharova from what appears to be a balcony of hotel in a tropical location.

The Russian Embassy in Jakarta could not immediately be reached for comment.

Lavrov traveled to the G20 summit of major economies in place of President Vladimir Putin, who has been shunned by Western leaders for his decision to invade Ukraine this year.
