Running because democratic governance is destructive

Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) said he chose to run for a third term in the US Senate because Democratic lawmakers rule in “a very confrontational and destructive manner.”

Johnson told Fox News on Monday.

That was definitely my intention – it was my strong preference, both for myself and for my wife, to serve that second term and go home. But I didn’t expect Democrats to gain full control of government, or to rule in the highly confrontational and destructive way they rule.

“I have never stopped doing difficult things, so I can’t go away. I am in a position where I think I can help and make a real difference, ”the senator continued, adding:

Problem # 1 is that we’ve lost faith, rightfully, in the FBI and the Justice Department and their corrupt Trump investigation; health care agencies and their dismal failure to deal with COVID; the media, for the most part; big tech giants – people have lost faith in these institutions which are vital for free democracy.

In 2016, Johnson promised he would only serve two terms, but changed his mind because he “didn’t expect the Democrats to take full control of the government.”

The Wisconsin Republican previously served as chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.

“At the end of the day, I really love this country, I love the people who live there, the people of Wisconsin,” Johnson told the outlet. “Our nation is in trouble, it is torn apart, and I think I can help the situation, which is why I have decided to run again.”

Johnson first announced his long-awaited decision in an op-ed for the the Wall Street newspaper, writing that he “will continue to fight for freedom in the public domain”.

“This is a decision I did not take lightly,” the lawmaker wrote. “Having already experienced an increasing level of vitriol and false attacks, I certainly don’t expect better treatment in the future. For my campaign to be successful, I will need the support of every American who values truth and refuses to allow lies and distortions to prevail.
