Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher furiously fight over Cristiano Ronaldo and Man United trophy hopes

The 36-year-old was benched by Michael Carrick for the 1-1 draw with Chelsea, coming off the bench in the second half.

Keane criticized the decision not to play against Ronaldo from the start, arguing that his record and recent form for United deserved him to be chosen regardless of the tactics employed.

“You see a guy who won everything in the game, he came back to Man United to try and lift the club. Of course he would want to play,” Keane said.

“You still think if Ronaldo is on the pitch, if the ball lands on someone in world football – even at 36 – it’s Ronaldo. It’s not like he’s come back to the club and no had not scored.

“Ronaldo won’t solve Man United’s problems, but you’re not bringing him back to sit on the bench.”

The two then embarked on a furious row over which trophies United are aiming for and their current position as a club.

Carragher asked United and PSG about their summer decisions to sign two game legends, then took offense at Keane who argued United did not bring Ronaldo back to the club just to win the Premier League.

“PSG signed Messi, United signed Ronaldo,” Carragher said.

“Two of the greatest players of all time. Are Man United any closer to the league title now than last season? No. Are PSG closer to the Champions League with Messi in the squad? No.

“It’s a team game, football.”

Keane replied: “Ronaldo was never going to get United back by winning titles.”

“What was the point of signing it?” Carragher asked.

“Did you like winning the FA Cup? They are going to have to win the FA Cup and come back to the Champions League, ”Keane said.
