Wham, bam, sorry, Cam.
Jseth Owens, a young footballer who berated Cam Newton at Newton’s 7v7 camp over the weekend, apologized on Twitter, calling the whole situation “miscommunication”.
Apologies in full:
First and foremost (sic) I want to express my sincere apologies to Cam Newton, my entire organization and my coaches for my actions at the 7v7 tournament this past weekend. I didn’t intend to go that far! First of all, I would like to start by saying that my parents never taught me to disrespect people. As a soccer player I let my competitive team get the most out of me and it was a huge communication problem. It was in the middle of the moment and I now realize how disrespect many of you have seen it. I never wanted to humiliate and let down anyone. I’m so grateful for 7v7 for even allowing me to be a part of the community and allowing me to be a part of the team I’m on currently. I realize this may dictate my future as a young man with really big dreams / goals, but I won’t allow it to stop me from getting to where I need to be. Once again, I apologize and hope I can be forgiven.

The exchange, which was filmed, showed Owens telling Newton, “You’re a free agent,” “you’re gonna be poor,” and “you’re ass” over and over. It hardly seems like “miscommunication” as Owens put it, but I hope he learned his lesson.
Owens has felt all the wrath of the internet since the video hit the net, with ratios plentiful and people perhaps a little unfair for poor judgment. Newton, however, seemed to take it in stride, smiling and asking to speak to the heckler’s father and reminding Owens that he was “rich.”
Hoping Owens will put that behind him and keep making progress.
