Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) on Thursday pushed back against the establishment narrative that Floridians should pay Disney’s debt. DeSantis said disbanding Disney’s Special Taxing and Administrative District was a response to the company injecting “pansexualism” into its programming for young audiences and attacking parents in Florida.
DeSantis spoke to Fox News host Laura Ingraham after outlets for the establishment and Disney claimed Floridians would have to pay off Disney’s $1 billion in outstanding bond debt.
He said his decision to eliminate the Reedy Creedy Improvement District, Disney’s special tax and administrative district, would level the playing field between Disney and other Florida corporations. He pointed out that Floridians would not pay Florida’s debt.
“It just ends with them being treated the same as every other business in Florida. They will follow the laws. They will not have their own government. They are going to pay their debts, pay their taxes,” the Florida governor said.
DeSantis pointed out that DeSantis benefited from the exclusion of Reedy Creek, particularly with its ability to issue its own bonds.
“They are Reedy Creek. It’s fiction. They pay money to run their operations…they will continue to pay money to run their operations, and that will be true if the state is in charge of a district, if it is disbanded to locals, it does not matter. It will continue to happen,” he continued.
The Florida curator said Disney cannot continue to have its corporate special guard while it attacks the parents. The fight between Florida conservatives and Disney escalated after the megacorporation attacked the parental rights in education bill.
He said, “I’m not comfortable having a company with its own government and special privileges, when this company is committed to attacking parents in my state.”
Earlier this month, Disney President Karey Burke, who has a “pansexual” child and a transgender child, told a corporate meeting that Disney was “targeting Gen Z and Millennials” with LGBTQIA2S+ content.

DeSantis said Disney has “injected pansexualism” and other LGBTQ ideologies into its programming. He hopes Disney might reverse its decision to inject leftist ideologies into its programming.
“When this company has people in very high places talking about injecting pansexualism into programming for young children, it’s wrong. Walt Disney wouldn’t want that. And so get back to the mission,” DeSantis said.
“Do what you have done right. That’s why people love the company and you’ve lost your way. This may be the wake-up call they need to get back on track.
