Romelu Lukaku calls on Belgium to hire Thierry Henry as next manager: ‘There is no doubt’

The Inter Milan striker, who has 104 caps for his country but failed to add to his 68 goals in a torrid World Cup campaign, said he had “no doubt on hiring the Arsenal legend.

Henry completed his second stint as Belgium assistant manager under Roberto Martinez in Qatar after leaving in 2018 for spells in charge of Monaco and the Montreal Impact.

The 45-year-old left the Canadian squad to be able to spend more time with his family in London, but Lukaku believes he is the perfect candidate to try to revive the Red Devils after Martinez’s exit.

“For me, Henry is Belgium’s next coach,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “There is no doubt, I say it openly: he will be the next coach.

“He has the respect of all the players, he has won everything. He knows how to coach, he knows what we have to do to get there.

“He wants to win, and I don’t think the federation is going to have a coach who wants to change everything and start from scratch.”
