Stefanos Tsitsipas reached his first Grand Slam final after beating Alexander Zverev in the men’s singles semi-final at Roland Garros

Stefanos Tsitsipas made history as the first Greek player – male or female – to reach a Grand Slam final as he stood up to Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller at Roland Garros.

The 22-year-old lost a two-set lead to Zverev before staying the course to register a 6-3 6-3 4-6 4-6 6-3 win over a sun-drenched Philippe Chatrier court.

It took him five match points, but Tsitsipas managed to cross the finish line to take his winning record over the German to 6-2 as he reached his first Grand Slam final on the fourth attempt, after losing his three previous semi-finals.

World No.5 Tsitsipas was the fit man on clay, having won his first Masters 1000 title in Monte Carlo before taking the title in Lyon, and now he will prepare for a meeting with the 13 times champion Rafael Nadal or world n ° 1 Novak Djokovic in the final on Sunday.
