A lone goal from Kai Havertz in the final saw Chelsea win their second Champions League title and it left a bitter feeling for Rodri and his teammates.

Now they will be determined to right this wrong and say you learn more in defeat than in victory ”.

“You have three shitty days the following days, you can’t even talk to your family or friends, they are always there to support you but your face is not as beautiful as you want it to be,” Rodri said .

“This is football, you can win or lose and we move on. In defeat you learn more than in wins.

As Pep Guardiola’s men embark on a new campaign, they will be strengthened by the addition of Jack Grealish who started the Etihad well.

Considering his price, £ 100million, a UK record, expectations are high, but Rodri says he will be “an important player for us”.

“Jack is a youngster, his level, his quality, the way he fits into the team, the job he has done since coming here with the humility that a Man City player should have.

“We are very happy with his involvement[ment] in the team, the way he understands the game and for sure he will be an important player for us.
