Rockers take the stage for “Women In Music Week”

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Women In Music week begins Friday evening, and over the next ten days, Huntsville City will honor women rockers and all they have accomplished through music.

Huntsville’s Mechi Rae rehearsed one of her signature songs at the Maitland Conservatory and she’s proud to represent Women’s Music Week in her hometown.

“It means a lot and to have been chosen to be one of Huntsville’s women to celebrate women in music. I’m honored,” Rae said.

As singer Shrimpa performs the lyrics of her song titled ‘At All’, she says it’s time for women to show their power in the music industry.

“When we decide to do what women do, we don’t want to hear anything at all,” Shrimpa explained. “It’s about us doing what we do and doing it big. »

Rae and Shrimpa are two of the artists who are an integral part of what Huntsville calls “Women in Music Week,” with 50 musicians in venues around Huntsville to showcase their talents over a 10-day period.

“It doesn’t matter what genre, country or pop, we belong to it all,” says Kaleka Jones, the creator of Love Jones Live Productions. Love Jones has assembled a collection of talented women who will perform on stage during the celebration.

Whether it’s production or marketing, female artist Jones told News 19 the idea behind this groundbreaking event is to show that women are essential to the success and growth of Huntsville’s music community in a male-dominated industry.

“It seems like men seem to be taken a lot more seriously in the entertainment industry, and girls have to break down the walls, and they have to show that they mean business and that they can be just as silly as the guys in this industry.” Jones said. “We work hard every day to break down these barriers and show that we belong here, like everyone else. »

Performances will take place at various locations throughout Rocket City, starting Friday evening at the Orion Amphitheater and continuing through September 24.
