Rock Hill, SC shooting: Dr Robert Lesslie and two grandchildren among 5 killed in York County mass shooting, authorities say
Victims of Wednesday night’s shooting near Rock Hill included a doctor, his wife and their two grandchildren, the York County Sheriff’s Office said in a tweet. The family was “very important and well known” in the county, said York County Sheriff’s spokesman Trent Faris.

Police were called to the scene following reports of a shooting at 4:45 p.m.

“Dr. Robert Lesslie and his wife, Barbara Lesslie, were both found at home and died of gunshot wounds, along with their two grandchildren. James Lewis of Gastonia, worked at the home and is deceased gunshot wounds, “the sheriff’s office said.

At the press conference following the shooting, Faris said he had lived in the area his entire life and that “Dr Lesslie was my doctor growing up”.

“Dr. Lesslie is one of those people that everyone knows. He founded Riverview Medical Center in Rock Hill and has been a fixture in Rock Hill for years, ”said Faris.

The doctor had been practicing in the region since 1981

In addition to the five people who were killed, another person was taken to hospital with “serious gunshot wounds,” said Faris, who described the incident as a mass shooting.

“It is a very tragic and tragic situation and the family asks you to respect their privacy during this time,” said Faris.

Lesslie was the founder of Riverview House Calls & Riverview Hospice and Palliative Care, according to his website, and had practiced in Rock Hill since 1981. In a personal biography page, Lesslie says he and his wife had been married for 40 years, grew up four children and had nine grandchildren.
“In my spare time, I enjoy writing, golfing, hunting, growing fruit and hops, and playing the bagpipes,” the bio page says.

As for the suspect, Faris said: “We have found the person we believe is responsible and we are with them at the moment.”

“That’s all I can say about this suspect,” added the spokesperson.

When asked if the suspect was a neighbor, Faris said: “He lives on the same road.”

A Tweeter from the sheriff’s office said authorities found the suspect “in a nearby house.”

“There is no active threat to the community,” the sheriff’s office said. “Detectives are still in the area, serving a search warrant and investigating this tragic event.”
