Robin Catalan plans to finish Elipitua Siregar at ONE 157

Robin Catalan is one of the most versatile fighters in the ONE Championship strawweight division, and his track record perfectly reflects that. Of his 10 career wins, nine have been evenly split between decisions, submissions and knockouts.

The Filipino fighter can break that uniformity when he takes on Elipitua Siregar at ONE 157: Petchmorakot vs Vienot, which will air live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium this Friday, May 20.

The nine wins on the Catalan’s interesting record include three decision wins, three submissions and three knockouts. This distribution, however, could very well come to an end in the 31-year-old’s next fight.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Catalan said he plans to finish Siregar any way he can. ‘The Ilonggo’ commented that Siregar is likely to gasp in wrestling exchanges, leaving him open to a knockout or submission.

Robin Catalan said:

“I think he gasps when he wrestles, so I’m going to look for an opening and use my own strength against him.”

He added:

“I think I can handle his struggle easily. We do not lack training. We are focused on improving our wrestling and have even made it part of our game plan. I’m looking to find my timing and see where I can get a knockout.

Robin Catalan wants to show off his refined ground game

Robin Catalan, like his Catalan Fighting System teammates, is a natural striker. The stable specializes in Muay Thai, Wushu and boxing.

Despite the emphasis on striking arts, Catalan said he has improved in his fight and plans to show it against Siregar.

The Catalan’s last submission victory dates back to 2018 when he forced Adrian Mattheis to tap out via a heel hook in the second round. Although he hasn’t submitted anyone since that fight, the strawweight contender is keen to add another submission win to his name.

“I believe his best strengths are his wrestling and his ground game. I’m not too worried about his strike. Of course, if I find the opening to make him kick, we’ll take it. I want to show that I have that in my game too.”

We’ll see if Catalan can add Siregar to his ONE 157 submission resume on May 20.
