The 20-year-old moved to Anfield over the summer, months after the club initially tried to sign him from Fulham.
A deal had been agreed in January but the move fell through in the final hours of the transfer window, with Carvalho playing a key role in helping Marco Silva’s side win the league.
With injury threatening to derail his first-team progress in the short term, Jurgen Klopp has often called on Carvalho.
The midfielder has made six appearances so far this season, scoring a spectacular winner against Newcastle United which has had a big impact on Merseyside.
Having emerged as one of the hottest talents in English football during his time at Fulham, Firmino has revealed he kept tabs on his team-mate earlier in his career.
“I admit I had watched some of his games before he came to Liverpool so I was already impressed with the way he was playing,” he told Liverpool’s official website.
“He’s a star, he’s a great player and now he’s also a very close friend. We are happy to have him here at Liverpool and I know he will help us a lot, with assists, goals and also his character on the pitch.
