Rob Key among contenders for England chief executive

The chief executive is the first of a number of jobs the ECB is seeking to fill after it fades from its ashes. Ashley Giles was fired as an MD last month.

Andrew Strauss, who held the job until 2018 when he had to step down for personal reasons, is leading recruitment, and Key is among the left-field picks the ECB has explored.

Key, a Sky Sports pundit and standard sports columnist, is highly respected in the game after a long career with Kent, as well as 15 Test caps for England.

Marcus North, Durham’s director of cricket, and Ed Smith, the national manager who was sacked last year, are other strong candidates for the job of chief executive.
