Rishabh Pant has set a benchmark since his international debut, says Anjum Chopra

Anjum Chopra believes that Rishabh Pant since his debut in international cricket has set a benchmark for himself by consistently performing wonders at the highest level. At the same time, Anjum also thinks it will bring heavy criticism to Pant’s life every time he fails in Indian colors.

Rishab Panting has often been called India’s next big thing. Pant, 24, has already created many historic feats at such a young age, including hitting hundreds of Tests in England, Australia and South Africa. The swaggering wicketkeeper is also seen as India’s future captain in all formats.

Pant’s frequent international cricket successes against England in February 2017 helped him secure the role of captain of the Men in Blue in the recent T20I series against South Africa at home. There he was heavily criticized for making a small impact with the bat, but then put on a magnificent show in Edgbaston against England, scoring 150+ and 50+ in the same game. Then he carried his good form to the UK limited series and has now been praised by many.

Speaking on her YouTube channel, the former Indian cricketer Anjum Chopra gave his opinion on Pant. Anjum remarked that Pant has set a benchmark since he entered international cricket, and the criticism around him is just the result.

“As a cricketer, we are aware that we are not going to be praised every time. Nor are we going to be criticized every day? Speaking of Rishabh Pant, he has set himself a benchmark since his debut in international cricket,” Anjum said during a question and answer (Q&A) session on his YouTube channel.

“Because he consistently performs and delivers winning performances, the benchmark increases. So when he fails to meet that benchmark, people feel like he hasn’t done anything. Expectations of him are very high. , which is why he faces such criticism on the days he doesn’t perform.”

So far, Pant has played 31 Tests, 27 ODIs and 54 T20Is for India. He will be in action in the next edition of India Asian Cup campaign, starting August 27.
