Rise in non-Covid-19 deaths hits life insurers


As expected, US life insurers paid out large numbers of Covid-19 death benefits last year. More surprisingly, many have also seen a jump in other death claims.

Industry executives and actuaries believe many of these other deaths are linked to delays in medical care following shutdowns in 2020, then, later, people’s fears of seeking treatment and the difficulty lining up their appointments.
