Rio Ferdinand jokes that Paul Pogba’s goal celebration against Burnley could hint at three more years at Manchester United with an expiring contract

Rio Ferdinand tried to dissect Paul Pogba’s goal celebration by jokingly suggesting he could sign a new three-year contract with Manchester United.

The Frenchman hasn’t signed a new contract with the club yet and could leave for free at the end of the season.

Fresh off a hamstring injury, which saw him miss months of action, Pogba had an instant impact early on against Burnley.

Receiving a reduction from Luke Shaw, the former Juventus star kicked the ball into the roof of the net, giving Nick Pope no chance, then began to raise three fingers in celebration.

As his career time at Old Trafford appears to be coming to an end, Ferdinand and Man United supporters will hope this message could prove meaningful.

Speaking on BT Sport, the legendary centre-back was asked by host Jake Humphrey what he thought Pogba’s message to Ralf Rangnick meant.

“Three more years, I would say,” he joked.

Also on BT Sport, former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch offered his own response, saying: “Three more weeks.”

The full-time mood was completely different as the Red Devils gave up the lead and a dominating first-half performance to draw 1-1 with Burnley.

A second-half effort from Jay Rodriguez gave the hosts a crucial goal in what could be a vital point in their bid to avoid a Championship comeback.
