‘Rings of Power’ Nazanin Boniadi On Why She’s Not Returning Season 2

UPDATE: Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Actress Nazanin Boniadi took to social media to explain why she won’t be returning for season 2 as human healer Bronwyn.

“I have chosen not to return for the second season of “Rings of Power”. This has nothing to do with my subsequent decision to prioritize my advocacy,” says the actress who championed the #WomanLifeFreedom uprising in Iran “and to defend the people of my country who risked everything for freedom.”

“My character, Bronwyn, was committed to these same ideals in fighting for a more just world, which is why I connected so deeply with her,” she added, “I can’t wait to share my latest projects with you.”

Deadline also confirmed that Boniadi’s role was not recast. Bronwyn is the mother of Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) and the lover of the elf warrior Arondir (Ismael Cruz Cordova). Muhafidin and Cordova are returning for season 2. Bronwyn did not make an appearance in the recent trailer for season 2 of Rings of power.

Boniadi recently wrote on Instagram that she had taken a break “to focus solely on the #WomanLifeFreedom uprising in Iran and to defend the people of my country who have risked everything for freedom.”

She also mentioned Deadline’s announcement of her film, A mosquito in the earin which she said: “Despite my passion for theater, I knew it would take a very special project to convince me to once again divide my time between my daily work and my vocation as an activist.”

The film is based on the Italian graphic novel A Zanzara in Orecchio by Andrea Ferraris, which tells the true story of Andrew and Daniela, an American couple eager to start a family, who travel to India to bring home their newly adopted child. A mosquito in the ear represents the feature directorial debut of BAFTA newcomer Nicola Rinciari.

Last week, Rings of Power showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay said a fan-favorite character, Tom Bombadil, from JRR Tolkein’s novel is finally making his debut, with that role played by Rory Kinnear.
