Republicans need to ‘really do something’ about the border crisis

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) said on Fox News Channel’s “The Faulkner Focus” Wednesday that Republicans should “really do something about ‘the influx of migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border’ instead of to speak”.

Roy said: “We have to hold or turn away. That’s what we need to do – change border policies. Republicans need to follow the agenda and understand what it really means to do something about it instead of talking about it. It is up to us to act. You have to use the fight against the debt ceiling, the fight against spending, and in fact we will have to do what the Senate failed to do when Mitch McConnell capitulated in December and removed leverage. We must now use the debt ceiling and the fight against spending in September to demand that Biden do the right thing, and HR29 is the right way to go.

“Detain as current law requires as part of an asylum decision,” he continued. “We will allow asylum applications, but you must be detained. This is what the law requires. This administration is trying to use asylum to end its real duty to secure the US border. I got it. We’ll do something about it, and I’ll make sure my fellow Republicans join us in the effort.

Roy added, “How many Republicans have you met, including some of the Republicans who say our HR29 bill is harsh? They came and said to use title 42 to fire people. It is in accordance with the law. Every American should agree with us and agrees with us. We shouldn’t just allow open flooding of the border. Come here, apply for asylum, judge your application but we turn away if you flood the area because the cartels make money. If you do that, taking back control of the border is the most compassionate thing we can do as believers. It is not Christian and not right to allow little girls to be sold into sex trafficking and to be raped in shelters. I’m sick of Republicans using rhetoric that doesn’t address abused people. This is what is happening right now. »
